Caitlin, the girl who loves going to the mall and hanging out with her friends after school. She is a normal teenage girl living in Pennsylvania. When she chooses Zimbabwe as the place she wants to have a pen pal she has no idea how much it will change her life.
Martin is from Zimbabwe and is always top in his class. Since he is top in his class he got the first pen pal letter from America. He hears that a girl, Caitlin, wants to be his friend and writes back. At first he keeps much of his life a secret, thinking that if Caitlin knew what his life was really like she would no longer want to be his friend.
When Caitlin hears what Martin's life is really like she is determined to help him. at first she sends him a single US dollar not knowing that what switched to Zim dollars (Martin's currency) it is equivalent to much, much more. Caitlin sends Martin money from babysitting and helps feed his family when Martin's father looses his job.
Martin's mother wanted all her kids to finish school. With the money that Caitlin sent he is able to go back and continue his schooling. When times start getting harder money is taken from it's envelope that was intended for him. When his family gets a Christmas present from Caitlin's whole family they are over excited.
One letter really did change two lives.
